The Upper Elementary 1 teacher is Mrs. Patricia Howarth and she is assisted by Ms. Maria Cabrera and our intern, Ms. Laura Gomez. Upper Elementary students enjoy physical education, art, music, and computers, plus trips to Losner Park three days a week, in addition to their curriculum of reading, math, science, and history. | Mrs. Patricia Pendergrass Howarth has been a Montessori teacher for over three decades. She moved to Homestead at the age of two and has been married to her husband Bruce for over 30 years. She has three children Andrew, Amanda, Jacob and three grandchildren Daria, Dexter, and Alessa (who all attend Atala). In addition to being one of the Atala owners, Mrs. Howarth earned her bachelor’s degree in sociology and religion from Mercer University in Macon, GA, has Montessori credentials from COMETT in Columbus, Ohio, and additional training from the Lindamood-Bell center in San Luis Obisbo, CA. Ms. Cabrera worked as a toddler assistant at Atala since 2016. Beginning in 2019, she joined our elementary staff as the LE 1 assistant. She has been married to Jose Cabrera for eight years. They have a son named Alexander who is an elementary student at Atala. She loves to help her family business, a nursery out in the Redland. She also enjoys going to Disney, fishing, baking, and spending time with her family. |
