Middle School

Our middle school class serves students in 6th through 8th grade. Mrs. Melanie D’Angelo is our Middle School History and English teacher and Mrs. Joy-Ann Humphrey-Wray is our Middle School Math and Science teacher. Both of these teachers bring a wealth of experience and background to their positions. Other subjects offered as part of our middle school curriculum include Spanish, physical education, music, and art.

All Atala middle school students are expected to perform at least 10 hours of community service each year. The service should be a meaningful and organized service and one that is chosen by the student. Each student will be required to maintain a log and communicate with his or her community service supervisor with each visit.

Our Middle School curriculum meets the requirements for the IB program and all of the magnet high school programs in our area. Parents are expected to research high school options and work with the teachers and administration on specific program requirements. Our Middle School students have been accepted to the Center for International Education: A Cambridge Associate School, Coral Reef Senior High School, Everglades Preparatory Academy High School, M.A.S.T. Academy @ Homestead, Miami Arts Charter, Redland Christian Academy, and South Dade Senior High School.

Meet our incredible Middle School teachers!

Mrs. Melanie D’Angelo earned a Bachelor’s Degree in English from The University of Central Florida. She has been a resident of Homestead for 12 years. She’s been married for 11 years to Mr. Jason D’Angelo, a Nuclear Security Officer at Turkey Point. They have two daughters, Ava and Adrianna, both of whom are Atala students. She enjoys spending time with family, reading, going to the beach and taking Disney trips! She is a huge Miami Heat basketball fan and love to watch UCF football. Go Knights! She couldn’t be more excited and honored to be a part of the Middle School staff at Atala! You may email Mrs. D’Angelo at mdangelo@atalamontessori.org. Mrs. Joy-Ann Humphrey-Wray earned a Bachelors of Science Degree from the University of Technology of Jamaica Majoring in Food Service Management and Mathematics Education (yes, I love numbers). She was born into a family of educators who instilled in her a love of learning. She is from the beautiful island of Jamaica and decided to chase her dream to the South Florida and take up a full Scholarship to Johnson and Wales to complete my MBA. The dream was not only fulfilled, but she now has been married for 6 years to Mr. Mickelle Wray and has two beautiful children, Joy-Anna and Mickelle Jr., both of whom are Atala students. The dream also decided to make a drastic change when she started to miss all her follow educators back home and while planning to return home, found a new home and a wonderful family at Atala. “This time I remember a saying I always heard while growing up—Math can be related to our lives it teaches us to always be careful with the signs.”
